Dayton Area to Receive $29.3 Million for Neighborhoods
DAYTON RECEIVES SECOND LARGEST AWARD IN OHIO

A regional consortium led by the City of Dayton will receive $29.3 million in federal Recovery Act funds to support neighborhood revitalization.

The Neighborhood Stabilization Program II funds will allow the area cities and organizations (Dayton, Montgomery County, Dayton Metropolitan Housing Authority, Kettering and Fairborn) to address approximately 1,200 vacant, abandoned or foreclosed structures.

The City of Dayton will use the award in the following ways: demolition and deconstruction; purchase and rehabilitation of foreclosed homes; and financing for rehabilitation of foreclosed properties. The City’s goals are to return properties to the housing market and stabilize/revitalize neighborhoods disproportionately affected by foreclosure and the economic recession.

Dayton neighborhoods most likely to be impacted by the grant funds include Santa Clara, the Greater Inner West area, Westwood, Twin Towers, Walnut Hills, Linden Heights and the Inner East area.

Michelob Reggae Festival To Bring Caribbean Rhythms Downtown

The 22nd annual Michelob Dayton Reggae Festival, the last of three festivals in the City of Dayton’s Downtown Summer Music Series, will bring sounds and rhythms of the Carribean to Dayton on Sunday, August 30, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The festival is free and open to the public, and will take place at Dave Hall Plaza, on East Fourth Street between Main and Jefferson Streets. Dayton’s Rev. Cool will emcee the event, and a variety of food, beverage and merchandise vendors will be present.

Music lovers are encouraged to bring friends and blankets or lawn chairs and spend the day.

Alcoholic beverages, glass containers and pets are not permitted.
